The world has changed. This change has not kept up with the needs of women in the workplace. Now more than ever research shows that women are facing mounting pressures of balancing work and home.
Companies need to act now to address the unsustainable stress from working in the “new normal.” From burnout to childcare to glass ceilings, women are amassing more reasons to leave the workplace. If companies can adapt their policies and culture to change biases and meet needs, they can set a foundation for a more equitable and better future that allows women to thrive.
International Women’s Day is a global event celebrating the social, economic, cultural, and political achievements of women. This year’s theme is Choose to Challenge, to empower to challenge and call out gender bias and inequality. Bridge Partners is proud to be a force for positive change and join the call to action for accelerating gender parity and challenging gender biases.
Flexible work life
Remote work is the new norm, but creating a culture of flexibility around calendars, homeschooling, and plans for hybrid or remote work after the pandemic is key for a modern workplace.
Sustain to maintain
Fight burn-out by reevaluating performance expectations due to COVID-19 and create a sustainable workload. Get creative with giving employees time off to ease the impact of homeschooling or burnout.
Maintain your values
Companies under stress are quick to overlook diversity and inclusion efforts and training. Don’t stop cultivating a culture of inclusion, and track gender bias in leadership numbers, promotions, and furloughs.
Mentoring makes a difference
Communication and support are always important for women in the workplace, but even more so today to destigmatize conversations about women’s needs. Invest in employees through learning resources, mental health programs, and candid conversations about their needs.
Women remained significantly outnumbered at the manager level at the beginning of 2020, with only 38% of women holding manager positions while men held 62%.2 That’s why we’re proud that women make up the majority of our workforce here at Bridge Partners.

I challenge women to act and not seek permission, to have courage to stand up for what you want and deserve, and realize it’s OK to be yourself.
Jess Burgamy

I will challenge people to hear women’s thoughts and ideas using a tactic called amplification in both professional and social settings. I will also raise my two girls to be empowered women.
